post-modern pressure
Azay-le-Rideau
Architect: Philippe Lesbahy
Loire Valley, north-western France.
built from 1518 to 1527
"French Renaissance The long low proportions and the sculptural decorations of Azay are Italianate, in the new antique taste, but the bastion corners capped by pointed cones, the vertical stacks of grouped windows separated by emphatic horizontal string courses, and the high sloped slate roof are unmistakably French."read more>//www.paris-architecture.inf
I'm feeling a bit rebellious & dreamy, so I'm posting a palace in France. It's so completely over the top that it's difficult not to get swept up by the romantic finials. From the courtyard, to the gentle moat, to the turrets, this place epitomizes the dream house of many a little girl, myself included. You just know this place has a unicorn in the stable....
For the most part, this blog has been examples of purely contemporary, Post-modern or Modern designs, however, I can't ignore a true love of mine, French Renaissance. It may not be the cool, cutting edge, avant guarde or conceptual, but I love it for everything that it is. I feel the same way about this building as I do about tea parties, floral printed anything, doilies & canned peaches. I'd love to see the Sex Pistols have a giant concert and party here, with Joan Jett & the Blackhearts opening, wouldn't that be a sight. 27 year old dream come true.
