Juxtaposition is a powerful tool. Making a comparison, maybe a statement or a counterpoint.
Here are some examples I find particularly appealing. Combining painting and photography combines the best of both worlds. The painting allows for a certain degree of fantasy while the photography maintains a grip on reality. This first piece really moved me. I couldn't actually find the artist, just the gallery of where it's showing. I find this piece infinitely relateable. The photograph could easily be of some relative, even my own grandmother standing outside of a shed in Saskatchewan. The two girls in the foreground evokes the kind of initimate and perhaps indifferent relationship between sisters. it's aged and ageless at the same time. I'm not sure about the figure 8 dots over their heads, it's not really clear. Is it  an infinity sign to remind us of the circle of life? I hope not. I myself am getting to an age where I'm starting to realize that my youth is really over.
